After living here for 1+ years I have been putting together a list that is quite unique to the area...It is my hope to have a picture to go along with all of these...in due time my friends...enjoy!
1. cars have lots of stickers on them
for parks, for parking passes, for government 'stuff'
we currently are required to have 5 different stickers (this does not include the oil change sticker) 1. campus parking sticker (one for each year, I can't get off the first one, which might be why people have multiple) 2. for my work parking 3. car inspection sticker 4. Beach pass
it's become a little game of mine to see how many stickers people have
2. all the electrically and telephone wires are above ground and some of the poles are pretty scary, broken, leaning, half missing, many with scuffed marks from side view mirrors, because the roads are very narrow, reference # 12
3. no 24hr stores around us
4. Duncan Donuts are EVERYWHERE
5. no one drivers the speed limit, not quite sure what classifies being pulled over, seems like the average is 15 miles over.
6. the Red Sox/Bruins/Celtics are like the Cornhuskers to Nebraskans...
7. there are fun stone fences all over, I wonder how long ago those rocks where laid there...
8. there are alot of ___'s famous roast beef and seafood restaurants...we laugh that because we haven't seen one cow and everyone is famous :)
9. the old buildings have plaques on them stating who built the house and the year, this is another little game of mine, to find the oldest house. I think I saw one the other day from the early 1600's.
10. We have horses in our town, our neighbors have horses. you only need 4 or 5 acres to have a horse in town! they ride through campus often. our town has the areas old polo 'center'
11. you always know what town you are in because there are neat signs everywhere stating you are entering a town. (this helps when you get lost!)
12. the roads are very narrow (and dimly lit)...this posses a problem when people are walking, biking, there is road construction, parked car etc.
13. free stuff....it is not uncommon to see stuff on the side of the road, in front of someones house...this is free and for the taking, some things I have heard of people picking up, dressers, tables, nightstands, pictures, frames, doors, windows, scooters, in line skates, pallets, chairs, bikes...
14. road rules are different, because it's semi-congested at times in our little town, and not many stop lights people will give you the right off way into traffic to let you out...very friendly that way! But if you don't go when they slow down then they tend to get huffy :)
15. I think I have seen at least 3 or 4 restaurants claiming the first fried clam
16. building a new home is not common, you add on to your house instead
Maybe GoodeGuy should open a remodeling office in MA??
